Over the long Wesak Day weekend, we took a slow and pleasant drive down south, towards the state MALACCA (Melaka). The journey from Kuala Lumpur to Malacca takes approximately 1hour and 40mins  by car via North-South Highway exiting at Ayer Keroh turn off.

Malacca, being a historical city has a lot to offer in terms of history, culture, the Baba and Nyonya heritage and of course the food! Within the short 2D1N weekend, we didn’t manage to cover as much as we would have liked. However, within this short time frame, we like to share what we managed to get out from out short trip away from KL.

Rich in history, Malacca had been ruled by the Malay Sultanate dating back early 15th century, to Dutch, Portuguese, British and Japanese ruling prior to Malaya gaining independence. Some popular tourist destination includes, Christ Church, The Stadthuys, A Famosa Fort, remains of St. Paul’s Church, Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, Malacca River Cruise, Bukit Cina, Menara Taming Sari, Jonker Street and the Melaka Zoo. As Malacca is a relatively small city, it is relatively easy to travel around and visit places.

Besides places to visit, another key attraction to Malacca would be the food. From authentic Nyonya food and Portuguese grilled fish to local delights such as satay celup, pork satay, cendol, coconut shake, dodol, coconut candy … the list goes on.

We stayed at a cheap yet comfortable hotel, the Time hotel in the happening Pubs and Restaurants district of Taman Melaka Raya. The Spot was so convenient and centrally located. We only walked 3 minutes out of our hotel and found a wonderfully tasty nyonya restaurant with a long history.

In order to truly appreciate Malacca, a trip there to experience it yourself is required. There are many choices in terms of accommodation. From the luxury of five star hotels to homestays are available. Should you be planning a weekend getaway soon, then do consider Malacca.
